ISO Public Protection Rating

In 2019 Hilton Head Island Fire Rescue earned an Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating of Class 2 as a result of the Town's continued commitment to provide quality services to its citizens and visitors.

What is ISO?

The Insurance Services Office (ISO) is a leading source of information about property/casualty insurance risk. The organization provides statistical, actuarial, underwriting, and claims data for a broad spectrum of commercial and personal lines of insurance.

Why are ISO Ratings Important?

About every two years ISO evaluates municipal fire-protection efforts in communities throughout the United States using the Public Protection Classification (PPCâ„¢) program. PPC is used in several ways:

• Helps insurance companies establish premiums.
• Used by many communities to measure the effectiveness of their fire-protection services.
• Serves as a tool that helps communities plan for, budget, and justify improvements.
