About Our Mayor

Mayor Alan Perry

Mayor Perry was elected as Mayor in November 2022.

Mayor Perry gained experience with local government by serving on Town's Planning Commission, which focused on land use, zoning changes, capital improvement projects and other public initiatives. He was also a member of the Town's Program for Public Information Committee.

Mayor Perry has been involved extensively with many community organizations including the Hilton Head Island St. Patrick's Day Parade, which he currently chairs; People for Parks, the RBC Heritage Classic Presented by Boeing Announcers, and the Hilton Head Island Recreation Association. He is a member of Providence Presbyterian Church, the Hilton Head Area Association of Realtors, and the Greater Hilton Head Island Mortgage Lenders Association.

Mayor Perry attended Anderson College and the College of Charleston.

In his free time, Perry enjoys boating and spending time with family and friends.

Role of the Mayor

In the Council-Manager form of government, the Mayor has the same powers and responsibilities granted by law on any member of Council. In addition, he establishes the agenda and serves as the presiding officer at Town Council meetings, represents the Town at official and ceremonial functions; calls special meetings or workshops of Town Council. The mayor also executes all contracts, deeds, ordinances, resolutions, proclamations and other instruments not designated to the Town Manager, after review and approval by Council.
