February 13, 2023

Krishana Jackson Perry, a community engagement professional with experience in public programming and administration, has joined the Town of Hilton Head Island as a Principal Planner for Historic Neighborhood Preservation.  She will work within the Town's Community Development Department and manage programs that preserve the Island’s historic neighborhoods.

"We are excited to announce Krishana as part of our team as we continue to implement initiatives within the Island’s historic Gullah Geechee neighborhoods. She brings a wealth of knowledge in public administration and policy and will help us implement the Gullah Geechee Culture Preservation Project Report initiatives by establishing programs and improving service delivery in our historic neighborhoods," said Missy Luick, Assistant Community Development Director.

Krishana has spent the majority of her career working in our nation's capital delving into programs and policies with an eye toward improving quality of life. Most recently, Krishana worked as an analyst for the United States Government Accountability Office, where her efforts spanned a range of programs including transportation, workforce, housing, inclusivity, and accessibility. Her work in these areas involved thorough and detailed analysis of public policy as well as expansive community outreach and engagement.

Prior to that, Krishana was employed as a graduate program assistant for D.C. Reads at American University, a supervisory role where she was tasked with the implementation of a community tutoring program throughout Washington, D.C. She began building her community engagement experience as an internship manager of the Mayor’s Youth Employment Program for the City of Charlotte, North Carolina. Among her accomplishments were overseeing recruitment, planning and business relationships for over 230 placements within Charlotte and helping students with career preparation and exposure.

"I am excited to join the Town of Hilton Head Island and work with the community to make a difference. Hilton Head Island has a rich history and vibrant culture that I am eager to learn about and am already embracing. I look forward to meeting and working with residents, and learning how I can support their quality of life and community initiatives," Krishana said.

Originally from North Carolina, Krishana moved to Hilton Head Island in 2020 from Maryland. She earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a master’s degree in public administration from American University in Washington, D.C. She is a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Outside of work, Krishana enjoys reading, spending time with her family and leading an active lifestyle by walking, biking and going to the beach.
