2024 Municipal General Election

The Town Council for the Town of Hilton Head Island is made up of a Mayor and six Town Council members. The Mayor is elected at-large and the six Town Council members are elected from the six wards within the Town.

Terms of Office

The Mayor and each member of Town Council shall be elected for a term of four years.

  • Upcoming terms will run December 6, 2024 - December 1, 2028.

Notice of Candidacy Filing Procedures

The Town of Hilton Head Island announces the candidate filing period for the 2024 Municipal General Election on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, for the purpose of electing Town Council members for Wards 1, 3, and 6.

Citizens who are interested in filing for candidacy may do so at Town Hall, One Town Center Court, starting at 8 am, Tuesday, July 16th until noon, Thursday, August 15th during normal operating hours (8 am - 4:30 pm).

The Statement of Candidacy is available through the Town Clerk at Town Hall but must be completed and signed at the time of submission.

Candidates should bring a government issued photo ID and be prepared to submit a $35 filing fee for the Office of Town Council. The fee can be paid by cash, credit card, or check made payable to the Town of Hilton Head Island.

Candidates should be aware of the following procedures and guidelines for filing:

  • Candidates filing for the Office of Town Council may only run for the ward in which they reside.
  • Candidates must currently be registered to vote in the Town of Hilton Head Island

  • This is a nonpartisan election. No political party affiliation will be placed on the ballot for any municipal candidate.
