Hilton Head Island non-profit organizations that have urgent or emergent needs may apply for out-of-cycle Accommodations Tax grants, Hilton Head Island Town officials have announced.
The Town is seeking to award nearly $381,000. In December 2020, when it awarded 2021 grants, the Town's Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee recommended this surplus of funds be put aside until it was needed.
"At the time, members sensed that as organizations continued to recover from economic challenges brought on by the coronavirus public health pandemic, they would need further financial assistance," said John Troyer, Director of Finance. "So, we are giving them an opportunity to apply for those funds. Our advisory committee will consider those that meet our qualifications."
Per state law, the funds must be used for tourism-related expenditures. Please see South Carolina State Code of Laws, Chapter 4, Section 6-4-10 for more details on allowable expenditures. Applicants must describe how their urgent or emergent event or project either drives tourism to Hilton Head Island or enhances the visitor experience, which is the same type of information they would provide for the normal application process, Troyer said.
Applicants may begin submitting their requests electronically at 8 am, Monday, April 26, to Cindaia Ervin, Finance Assistant, at CindaiaE@hiltonheadislandsc.gov. The deadline for submission is Friday, May 7.
