The Town of Hilton Head Island has temporarily paused paving work on its section of Mitchelville Road due to supplier operations. The asphalt plant that provides paving materials has shut down for several weeks thus impacting local work; it is expected to reopen in mid-January 2026.
In the meantime, the Town-owned portion of Mitchelville Road within the Baygall Historic Neighborhood is graded and will be open for the public to use starting Friday, December 5. Paving will resume once the asphalt plant is back in operation and the specified materials are made available. The Town will notify area residents once the work restarts.
As previously announced, the project includes the following scope of work:
The infrastructure upgrade and partially paved route will enhance safety and accessibility for residents and visitors. The improvements will allow better access to municipal services, including Fire and Rescue vehicles responding to emergency calls in the area.
