Beach Renourishment Phase I Project Update 13 – Construction activities at Pine Island, Port Royal and Islanders Beach Park

This Week’s Progress (Oct. 25-31)

Marinex Construction demobilized equipment (trucks, bulldozers, and pipelines) from Pine Island to Islanders Beach Park, allowing crews to prepare for the next leg of Phase 1 beach renourishment work - specifically, the Port Royal Sound shoreline, also known as the heel.

Cape Romain Contractors began preparing the second phase of work at Pine Island – the installation of breakwater structures. This will take several months to complete. The Pine Island beach will remain closed during this segment of work.  

Looking Ahead (Nov. 1-7)

Cape Romain Contractors will start hauling truckloads of rocks to the area of Pine Island beach, where the breakwater structures will be built. This construction will take several months to complete. The Pine Island beach will remain closed during this segment of work.

Marinex will:

• Relocate their final pieces of equipment from Pine Island to Islanders Beach, which will provide access for renourishment activities along the Port Royal Sound shoreline.
   
• Start mobilizing in the Port Royal area over the weekend. This will involve placing equipment and pipes on the beach and connecting the submerged pipeline to the dredge area for sand. This process is expected to take about one week before sand pumping can begin.

Please be mindful of the following:

• Portions of Islanders' Beach Park will be closed to vehicular traffic and parking from now through the duration of the beach renourishment project. The public is advised to observe and follow all posted signs during the work period.
   
• The partial restriction is required to facilitate the truck delivery of the beach renourishment pipeline.
   
• Only those residents whose vehicles are registered with a Town-issued beach parking permit are authorized to park in the remaining available, non-metered spaces.
   
• Alternative nearby beach access and parking is available at Folly Field and Driessen Beach Parks, and the Burkes Beach Road access.
