The Town of Hilton Head Island will begin construction of a new pocket park — a small community space — on Thursday, October. 2, 2025, between the northeast quadrant of Coligny Circle and the Coligny Plaza shopping center.
As part of this capital improvement project, a section of the Coligny Circle pathway connecting Pope Avenue to North Forest Beach Drive will be temporarily closed. Construction fencing will be installed to secure the work area. Selective tree removals will begin the week of October 6 and are expected to be completed by the end of that week. All work will take place Monday to Friday, between 7 am and 7 pm.
The project is scheduled for completion in April 2026 and will include:
The park was designed by Wood & Partners and will be built by Esposito Construction. Funding for the park comes from tax increment financing — revenue generated from the increase in property taxes in the Coligny and Pope Avenue areas set aside specifically for local improvements.
Safety controls, detours, and construction signage will be in place throughout the construction timeframe. Pedestrians and bicyclists should use caution when near the project area.
The Coligny Pocket Park is one of 11 community park projects outlined in the Town’s recently adopted Strategic Action Plan – Fiscal Year 2026-2028. It includes a goal to enhance the Town's park system, program, and recreational amenities to promote health, connectivity, environmental sustainability, and a high quality of life for Hilton Head Island residents and visitors.
"It's exciting to see the projects we adopted as part of our strategic action plan begin to take shape. Coligny Circle is one of our busiest areas, so this park, although small, will enhance the space and provide the perfect place for residents and visitors to pause, rest and enjoy the surroundings," said Mayor Alan Perry.
