The Town of Hilton Head Island has resumed work to enhance pedestrian safety along William Hilton Parkway between Dillon and Beach City roads. Work began today and is anticipated to be completed by March 31, 2025.
The project includes installing new lighting, crosswalk striping, and rectangular rapid flashing beacons. These beacons are designed to boost pedestrian visibility and improve driver awareness at marked crosswalks without traffic control signals.
Additionally, landscaping upgrades will include the placement of new palm trees, flowering and evergreen shrubs, mulch, and fresh sod. Together, these enhancements will help improve safety and aesthetics along this corridor.
While lane closures will not be necessary, some pathways will be partially closed to accommodate the construction work. Pedestrians and motorists are encouraged to exercise caution while traveling through the work area.
The project is made possible through an intergovernmental agreement between the Town and Beaufort County, with funding provided by the Town’s Capital Improvement Program and a $600,000 grant from Beaufort County.
