Annual Business License Renewal Period Open for Hilton Head Island Businesses

The Town of Hilton Head Island has opened its annual business license renewal period. By now, businesses operating within the Town should have received a renewal notice by mail.

Pursuant to Title 10, Chapter 1, Section 10-1-40 of the Town’s Municipal Code, business owners are required to complete their license renewal by April 30 each year. Following the renewal process, the Town will issue a new license, valid for 12 months from May 1 to April 30.

Here’s what you need to know about renewing your business license:

• The business license tax is calculated based on the gross revenue reported on your prior year's federal income tax return.
• The business license renewal fee must be received or postmarked by April 30.
• Any business found operating without a valid license may face penalties as stipulated in the Town Code, with fines up to $500 per day for non-compliance.

To submit the business license renewal fee:

• Process online with a credit card or e-check at hiltonheadislandsc.gov.
• Pay in person with a check or credit card at the Town of Hilton Head Island.
