Cross Island Boat Landing to Remain Open for Public Use & Recreational Boating

July 25, 2023

The Town of Hilton Head Island has received reports of misinformation being circulated on various social media platforms and within the community that the Cross Island Boat Landing located at 68 Helmsman Way is being closed to the public. That is incorrect information. We are sharing the following to ensure accurate information about this matter is disseminated:

The Cross Island Boat Landing is not closing. The boat landing will remain open for public use. The Town is in the process of transferring ownership of the boat landing to Beaufort County. A condition of the Town’s transfer of this property requires Beaufort County to keep the Cross Island Boat Landing and its associated parking areas open for use as a public boat landing. Additionally, Beaufort County is undertaking separate actions to condemn property adjacent to the Cross Island Boat Landing for improvements related to the Daufuskie Island Ferry.

In a recent media release, Beaufort County stated that it is in the process of condemning adjacent parcels for ferry parking to preserve boat ramp capacity. The Town and the County will share more concrete information about improvements at this location when available.
