Town Receives Positive External Audit Report on 2022 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report

The Hilton Head Island Town Council received a positive audit report from Greene Finney Cauley, LLP, the Town's external auditor, with the results of the annual external audit on the Town’s finances for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2022.

The 2022 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) was presented at the Town Council meeting on Tuesday, January 17. It provides results based upon an audit of the financial statements of the governmental activities, the business-type activities, each major fund and the aggregate remaining fund information of the Town. The audit process is done in accordance with the Government Auditing Standards. The external auditors issued an unmodified opinion on the Town’s financial reporting. An unmodified opinion is the highest audit opinion that can be issued. The firm indicated that the audit showed no material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, or compliance issues.

"I am happy to share with our Town residents and business owners that outside auditors have again given Town finances the seal of approval. We have a hardworking finance staff that adheres to best practices in all of its work - accounting, capital planning, budgeting, cash management, debt management, procurement, revenue services and emergency preparedness.  The entire Town staff is dedicated to maintaining high quality services for our citizens while being prudent stewards of taxpayer dollars in all of the Town’s finances," said John Troyer, Director of Finance.

"I am very pleased with the results of the 2022 audit. It represents the hard work our Town staff and our external auditor have done to ensure we have a clean audit. The rating the auditors have rendered reflects the Town’s commitment to deliver the highest level of services possible while being fiscally responsible with public dollars and maintaining a stable financial position," said Mayor Alan Perry.

Previous annual financial reports, annual budgets and monthly financial reports are also available on the Town's website.
