The Town of Hilton Head Island will begin several maintenance and beautification projects this month to improve corridors and pathways around the Island. The projects are aimed at increasing pedestrian, bicycle and vehicular safety and giving a consistent appearance to medians, pavement markings and pathway signage.
Tree and vegetation maintenance along William Hilton Parkway, Cross Island Parkway, Pope Avenue, and Palmetto Bay Road begins Wednesday, January 18. The Town will work in conjunction with contracted arborists to identify and remove dead, hazardous or declining trees and large shrubs, prune trees and clean debris within median areas. The work is expected to be completed in late March.
Beginning the week of February 6, Town staff and contractors will perform maintenance work on all public pathways. This work involves removing overgrown and hazardous vegetation, removing inconsistent and non-regulatory signage, installing new signage and applying new pavement markings at crosswalks and intersections. This work follows a recent assessment of the condition of public pathways around the Island and will occur over several months.
