Hilton Head Island Town Council Hosting Workshop on Mid-Island District

September 13, 2022

MKSK, a consulting firm for the Town of Hilton Head Island, will present an updated plan for the Town's Mid-Island District at a Town Council workshop on Wednesday, September 14.

The workshop begins at 8 am in Town Council chambers at Town Hall, 1 Town Center Court. The proposed plan includes strategies for the 103-acre Town-owned, Mid-Island Tract off Union Cemetery Road as well as redevelopment strategies to help revitalize commercial and residential areas around the tract.

Together, the tract and adjacent areas make up the Mid-Island District. Situated in the center of the Island, the district extends from the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, encompassing areas along Beach City, Union Cemetery and Dillon roads, to Broad Creek including areas along William Hilton Parkway, Leg-O Mutton Road and Gardner Drive. Last year, the Town hired MKSK, a national consulting firm, to prepare plans for its Mid-Island Redevelopment Strategy and Community Park, a major Town Council policy initiative and capital project to help reinvigorate the center of the Island.

In addition to the Mid-Island District, Town Council will discuss strategies for workforce and affordable housing.

Wednesday’s workshop is open to the public. The agenda for the workshop is available on the Town’s website at www.hiltonheadsc.gov.  The public may view the workshop on the Town’s public meetings Facebook page and the Beaufort County Channel.
