Land Surveying and Site Cleaning Work for Town Public-Private Partnership Housing Initiative to Start Week of March 7

March 3, 2022

The Town of Hilton Head Island is beginning the groundwork on an initiative for a housing public-private partnership.

Beginning Monday, March 7, Town contractors will start site cleaning, maintenance, and surveying work on a 13-acre tract between Gumtree and Wild Horse roads. The site is in close proximity to the Hilton Head Island Recreation Center and Hilton Head Island public school campus.

Work will include land surveying as well the removal of overgrown, invasive vegetation, trash debris, and dead trees. Surveyors will flag all trees over 6" in diameter as they collect information for the survey work. Work is expected to be completed in early April.

This project is the direct result of a Town Council initiative to seek a public-private partnership to identify and advance Town-owned parcels for workforce housing opportunities. Last month, Town Manager Marc Orlando proposed the public-private partnership idea to Town Council as a solution to the need for workforce housing on the Island. Town staff is now working on a request for qualifications to identify potential private partners.
