Town of Hilton Head Island Recognized for Website Excellence

October 27, 2021

The Town of Hilton Head Island's new, redesigned website (hiltonheadislandsc.gov) has earned two Pinnacle Awards for excellence in web design and innovation, the National Association of Government Web Professionals (NAGW) announced at its 2021 Virtual Conference.

The Town received recognition in the categories of City/County Small Population Group, which is for municipalities up to 50,000 residents, and City/County Custom Website Group, which is for websites that are created inhouse using custom created content management systems or open-source projects such as WordPress. In presenting the awards at the October 20 virtual ceremony, NAGW At Large Director Matthew Vanderhost applauded winners for their work in providing information to serve their communities.

"The COVID-19 pandemic emphasized the need for timely and accurate information. It was inspiring to see that NAGW members continue to innovate in 2021 to serve their communities," said Vanderhorst, who also serves NAGW as Pinnacle Awards Chair.

The NAGW Pinnacle Awards are judged by web professionals inside and outside the government web industry. "The Pinnacle Awards celebrate excellence in government web design and innovation," said NAGW President Jason Huber. "The entrants do extraordinary work with limited budgets and resources. NAGW congratulates all of the winners on their outstanding work that truly serves their communities."

This year, awards were presented in categories for cities and counties and awards for state and federal organizations, microsites, and special site features. Entries are judged on content, organization, design, performance, flexibility, accessibility, standards, and interactivity.

"We are very happy to earn national recognition for our website and congratulate our talented Website Developer, Rene Philips, for her expertise in building and managing our website. She is committed to making sure the public can engage with us through the website, whether they just need information or are seeking to do business with the Town," said Angie Stone, Assistant Town Manager. Nearly 250,000 people access the Town's website each month.

The Town launched its updated website in July. The redesigned website features a more modern appearance, easier navigation, refreshed content and improved functionality. The website is also designed to be responsive so that it is easy to view on any type of device, including smartphones and tablets.
