Community Input Sought for Mid-Island Initiative Area Study

October 20, 2021

As park planning begins on the Town-owned Mid-Island Tract, the Town of Hilton Head Island is seeking community input on the needs and opportunities for the area around the 103-acre parcel in the center of the Island.

MKSK, the lead consultant for Mid-Island Initiative Area Study, and other project consultants hired by the Town will use the input gathered to prepare a redevelopment strategy for the area, which is comprised of a mix of old and new commercial developments, industrial uses, residential neighborhoods, the Hilton Head Island airport, Town-owned parklands and conservation areas, and significant cultural resources including Union Cemetery and St. James Baptist Church.

Residents can provide input by completing a survey and by attending an upcoming Open Park Day at the Mid-Island Tract, bordered by William Hilton Parkway, Dillion Road and Union Cemetery Road.

Open Park Day will be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, from 2 to 6 pm at the Mid-Island Tract. The drop-in event will provide an opportunity for community residents to engage with the Town’s consultants to provide input regarding the initiative area. Event visitors may park in a temporary parking area that is located at the property’s Union Cemetery Road entrance.

To access the survey, visit hiltonheadislandsc.gov/opentownhall/. It will be open through November 12, 2021.
