William Hilton Parkway Gateway Corridor Project is No. 1 Priority for Hilton Head Island

May 26, 2021

The Hilton Head Island Town Council convened a successful workshop today regarding the William Hilton Parkway Gateway Corridor Project.

This work follows a series of workshops Town Council has held regarding the project to enhance travel through and bring multiple roadway improvements to the gateway to Hilton Head Island, including its historic Stoney neighborhood.

Representatives of the SC Department of Transportation, key consultants, and MKSK, Inc., the firm providing land planning services to develop a holistic corridor plan for this important initiative, participated in Tuesday's virtual session. The video recording of the session can be viewed online at the Town's website at hiltonheadislandsc.gov.

Town Council and other participants left the workshop with a concurrence of thought that the ultimate solution must be a respectful blend of good engineering, community planning, and aesthetics.

"Developing community-based solutions that enhance the experience for those living in and moving through the gateway corridor must be balanced with creating efficiencies in our transportation system," said Hilton Head Island Mayor John McCann.

"We are rolling up our sleeves and coordinating with project partners to assure direction toward a melded product for the best interest of the Stoney neighborhood and overall Island," McCann said. "Town Manager Marc Orlando and I are united in concluding that this project is the Town's No. 1 priority."
