Conditions & Trends Assessment

The Town of Hilton Head Island Conditions and Trends Assessment is a report designed to help the Town make informed decisions by using facts and data about the Island. As a "living document," the Conditions and Trends Assessment will be updated regularly to maintain accurate information about the community.

The report is intended to help everyone in the community better understand current trends and anticipate potential issues that may arise in the future. The assessment will serve several purposes:

Provide a common starting point

  • Facilitate community discussions by sharing information about what's happening locally and in nearby areas.
  • Bring together important information and share resources.
  • Clearly identify the community's needs, gaps and opportunities.

Assist with future planning and studies

  • Provide a set of facts to help focus on the most important issues.
  • Streamline the information-gathering process through the use of maps, charts, and other resources.
  • Identify urgent issues, opportunities, or needs.
  • Make sure various planning groups, town departments, and community partners are using the same information.

Track progress

  • Provide a snapshot of what the Island currently looks like across multiple areas.
  • Measure future progress against this baseline.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of policies.
  • Assess the impact of major projects both now and in the future.
