William Hilton Parkway Resurfacing Project

South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has contractors working on Hilton Head Island to resurface multiple segments of William Hilton Parkway.

  • Segment 1 - Gum Tree Road to Whooping Crane Way / Indigo Run.
    • Scheduled to be substantially complete by June 30, 2023.
  • Segment 2 - Shelter Cove Lane (near Beaufort County Sheriff's Office) to Yacht Cove Drive.
    • Scheduled to be substantially complete by June 30, 2023.
  • Segment 3 - Yacht Cove Drive to Sea Pines Circle / Arrow Road.
    • Scheduled to be substantially complete by July 31, 2023.

What does resurfacing entail?

  • Milling (grinding up and removing) the existing asphalt to a depth of six inches.
  • Laying a four inch intermediate or binder course of asphalt. This layer is a stronger, more coarse asphalt that will extend the useful life of the roadway.
  • Laying the two inch surface course. The surface course is a top layer that provides a smooth driving surface and addresses transitions at intersections.

To reduce the impact on traffic:

  • Work is being performed at night between the hours of 9 pm and 6 am.
  • One lane of traffic will always remain open in each direction.
  • Work that requires lane closure will be suspended during the PGA Golf Tournament (Heritage). No lane closures will occur April 10 - 16.

Future Resurfacing Projects (not yet scheduled) will address:

  • Cross Island Parkway to Gum Tree Road.
  • Whooping Crane/Indigo Run to Shelter Cove Lane.
