The Town announces the completion of the 2016 Island wide Beach Renourishment Project. The Town's contractor Weeks Marine, Inc. completed sand placement activities in the overnight hours on December 29th.

2016 Beach Nourishment Project Update - (1/13/2017 Media Release)
Beginning Monday January 16, 2017 the Town's subcontractor, Eastman Aggregates will begin tilling those portions of the Island's beach which were recently renourished. The tilling is a requirement of the beach renourishment project permits and is done to ensure suitable nesting habitat for sea turtles. The portions of the beach affected by this work are South Beach between markers 12 and 20, South Forest Beach to the Folly between markers 53A and 97, adjacent to Port Royal Plantation between markers 117 and 123, along the Port Royal Sound beach between markers 124 and 130 and at Mitchelville Beach. 2016 Beach Nourishment Project Update - (12/29/2016 Media Release)
The Town hereby announces the completion of the 2016 Island wide Beach Renourishment Project. The Town's contractor Weeks Marine, Inc. completed sand placement activities in the overnight hours on December 29. Since the start of the project in June, more than 2.5 million cubic yards of sand have been placed along approximately 7 miles of shoreline. The work includes damage reparations to some portions of the beach damaged by Hurricane Matthew. Weeks Marine plans to demobilize from the Island within the next 30 days via Islanders' Beach Park and the Town's Collier Beach Property. Read more...
2016 Beach Nourishment Project - Progress Update - (11/28/2016 Media Release)
On November 27, 2016, after relocating the dredge, pipeline and equipment the Town's contractor Weeks Marine, Inc. restarted sand placement activities near Singleton Beach. Work will advance southward along the Palmetto Dunes oceanfront to near Captain's Walk. In order to finish the project, approximately 600,000 cubic yards of sand is to be placed along about 10,000 feet of shoreline. The project is expected to be concluded in late December. Read more...
2016 Beach Renourishment Project Update - (11/23/2016)
All beach fill activities between South Forest Beach (near Marriott's Grande Ocean Resort) and southern Palmetto Dunes (near Captain's Walk) are complete. The dredge, pipeline and equipment will be repositioned during the next few days. Beach fill activities are expected to resume at Singleton Beach on Saturday November 26. Daily updates will resume on Monday November 28.
2016 Beach Nourishment Project - Progress Update - (11/10/2016 Media Release)
Work to repair hurricane damage to the previously constructed beach along the south central oceanfront (North and South Forest Beach) is complete. The Town's contractor Weeks Marine, Incorporated, has rebuilt the beach to the point where they were prior to Hurricane Matthew near Shipyard/Palmetto Dunes. As a result of the impact of the storm, Town hereby announces a change in the limits to two (2) of the four (4) of the acceptance segments along the central oceanfront portion of the work. 2016 Beach Renourishment Project Schedule Update - (10/25/2016)
As a result of weather related delays encountered by the passage of Hurricane Matthew, the Town has revised the schedule for the completion of the remaining segments of the Beach Renourishment Project. Work on the southern half of the central oceanfront beach will continue to advance northward before stopping adjacent to southern Palmetto Dunes. This section is now expected to be complete by mid-November. Work on the northern half of the central oceanfront beach, from southern Palmetto Dunes to Singleton Beach is now expected to take place from Late November to Late December. Work here will commence at Singleton Beach and advance southward to the tie in. Please see the attached timeline map.

2016 Beach Nourishment Project - Progress Update - (8/22/2016 Media Release)
The Town's contractor, Weeks Marine Incorporated restarted beach renourishment activities in South Forest Beach on August 21, 2016. Currently the active construction zone is located between Beach Marker 55 and 57A, south of the Coligny Beach Park access. In coming weeks, work is expected to advance to the north adjacent to and then beyond Coligny, North Forest Beach and Shipyard.
