Evacuation Ordered for Beaufort County, including Hilton Head Island, Starting Monday, September 2

Following a news conference this evening, S.C. Governor Henry McMaster issued a mandatory evacuation order for all of Beaufort County, including Hilton Head Island, effective 12 p.m., Monday, September 2.

"I am urging all Hilton Head Island residents to heed the Governor's order and make plans to leave the Island," said Mayor John McCann. "This is a dangerous storm and we want to make sure our local residents evacuate timely and safely."

Beginning at noon on Monday, evacuation lane reversals will begin on U.S. 278. Tolls on the Cross Island Parkway will be waived. Lane reversals will also occur on I-26 West from Charleston to Columbia.

Starting Tuesday, September 3, all Town of Hilton Head Island government offices and facilities, and local schools will be closed until further notice. All Town Council and committee meetings are also cancelled until further notice.
