The Town of Hilton Head Island invites the public to participate in the Parks and Recreation Master Plan open house events on:

  • Monday, August 19th, 6 to 8 p.m. at Town Hall in the Benjamin M. Racusin Council Chambers, One Town Center Court.

  • Wednesday, August 21st, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Island Recreation Center Community Room, 20 Wilborn Road.

These drop-in style open houses will allow participants a chance to express what they feel are the most important park and recreation amenities for the community. Consultants and staff will be on site to ask and answer questions, and receive comments about what the Island needs.

The Town recently hired LŌSE Design of Nashville, Tennessee, to help develop a Parks and Recreation Master Plan. Public input from the open houses is the first step in a months-long process designed to help the Town determine the future of its parks. The master plan will serve as a guide for the Town's development, expansion and improvement of parks and recreation facilities. It will also be integrated into Our Plan, the Town’s 2020-2040 Comprehensive Plan initiative.

Other meetings being held next week for the Parks and Recreation Master Plan are as follows:

  • Monday, August 19th, 4 p.m.: Our Plan Development Team will discuss their progress with the Our Plan Parks and Recreation Task Group. Location: Living Lab, Town Hall, One Town Center Court, Bldg. D.

  • Tuesday, August 20th, 4 p.m.: Regular Town Council meeting. The consultant will be introduced. Location: Benjamin M. Racusin Council Chambers.
