Due to the Statewide Red Flag issued by the South Carolina Forestry Commission outdoor burning is prohibited on Hilton Head Island until further notice. Outdoor burning includes recreational and yard waste fires. The next yard waste burn date is scheduled for June 8th and conditions will be re-evaluated prior to this date.

The current weather conditions present an elevated risk of wildfire. Weather forecasts include stronger-than-normal wind gusts and very low relative humidity, all of which combine with dry fuels on the ground to create the potential for outdoor fires escaping easily and spreading rapidly.

As a reminder a permit is required to conduct Outdoor Burning of Yard Waste. Permits can be obtained at any fire station on Hilton Head Island.
