About the Shelter Cove Pathway Project

The Town of Hilton Head Island is making infrastructure improvements along U.S. 278 Bus.(William Hilton Parkway) in the Shelter Cove area. A new multi-use pathway is being constructed along eastbound U.S. 278 Bus. from the northernmost intersection with Shelter Cove Lane, near the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office, to the middle Shelter Cove Lane intersection at Hickory Tavern. This will complete the missing section of pathway along the eastbound side of the U.S. 278 corridor from New Orleans Road to Mathews Drive. The pathway will be offset from the travel lanes except for brief sections at the deceleration turn lanes. The 8' – 10' wide pathway will be constructed of pervious asphalt and will include a new signalized crosswalk at the middle Shelter Cove Lane intersection and storm drainage improvements. Please use caution when travelling through this work zone.
