A consultant for the Town of Hilton Head Island will share recommendations on what local citizens can do to protect and preserve the Island's Gullah Geechee culture at 5:30 p.m., Monday, April 1, at the Palmetto Electric community meeting room, 111 Mathews Drive.

Phil Walker, a consultant the Town hired last year, will present an overview of the sustainable solutions he and his team developed following several work sessions with local citizens, including those who live in the Island's historic Gullah Geechee neighborhoods. Preserving the Island's Gullah Geechee culture and neighborhoods is one of the Town Council’s top priorities.

Walker, principal of The Walker Collaborative, and his team gathered feedback from residents on what they felt were significant issues facing the Gullah Geechee neighborhoods and their ideas for addressing issues such as culture preservation, heirs’ property, zoning and land development. Following Monday's meeting, recommendations will presented for consideration at upcoming meetings of the Town’s Planning Commission and Town Council.
