The Town of Hilton Head Island today announced Jennifer McEwen as its new Culture and Arts Network Director. The announcement follows a three-month nationwide search, with 191 candidates applying for the position.

In her role as Director, McEwen will lead the process to create and implement a civic plan for enhancing the Island’s existing entertainment, arts, culture and heritage (EACH) assets and for identifying new assets for development. Working with stakeholders, we expect the Director to elevate the marketing of our assets and events in a way that showcases them as successfully as other Island assets, with a focus on making them more accessible to our entire diverse population of residents and visitors.

Originally from Connecticut, McEwen received a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of North Carolina and a Master of Arts in Arts Administration from the University of New Orleans. Most recently, she was a member of the National Arts Strategies Chief Executive Program, a professional development experience designed to support 50 cultural leaders to effectively lead change in their organizations, communities, and the cultural field.

McEwen has over 10 years of executive leadership experience in arts marketing and program development in the Metro Atlanta area, most recently serving as Executive Director of Kenny Leon’s True Colors Theater Company in Atlanta. She has a proven track record of strategic leadership and a wealth of experience in creating brand awareness and marketing in an arts environment. McEwen states she has "many years under my belt advocating that arts and culture organizations drive economic development, and through strategic collaboration with the arts organizations in your area, we can market and brand arts and culture programming to create a name for Hilton Head Island as a place where arts live."

The new Director will be supported by a Town Council-created advisory committee consisting of members with involvement in local EACH endeavors as well as experience in other professions also relevant to making the Town an arts and culture destination. As a thorough understanding and assessment of the Island’s current assets is gained, Ms. McEwen will partner with this Committee to achieve established goals.

McEwen is excited about the opportunity to lead the community through this new initiative.

She will assume her new role as Hilton Head Island's first Culture and Arts Network Director effective August 1.
