Due to the coronavirus pandemic and in the interest of public safety stemming from COVID-19, the Town decided not to host an in-person ribbon-cutting ceremony. Town officials said they hope to be able to have a grand celebration in the Spring of 2021.The ribbon-cutting on Thursday marks the official opening of the park, which sits on a 10-acre site off Pope Avenue.

Some of park’s features and amenities are:

  • The Adventure Playground, named after the ship Captain William Hilton was on when he discovered Hilton Head Island. It features a playground and a reimagined design of the ship where children can play.
  • The Pavilion and Lawn where fun events and festivals can be held.
  • The Perimeter Walk that is subtly lighted for evening strolls around the park.
  • The Setting Sun sculpture - a reflection of our public arts program.
  • Exercise Stations for fitness buffs.
  • Wi-Fi, Lights and Security Cameras for your safety and connectivity.
  • The Sandbox Children’s Museum, which will open next year, has play and education elements for children.
  • Restrooms and parking.

Wood and Partners, a Hilton Head Island landscape architecture and land planning firm, designed the park. Nix Construction constructed the park over a 17-month period. The playground will be open daily from sunrise to sunset. The park closes at 10 pm.
