Citizens who are interested in filing for candidacy may do so at Town Hall, One Town Center Court, starting at 8 a.m., Friday, July 31 until noon, Monday, August 17. The candidacy filing form will be available at Town Hall. Candidates should bring a photo ID and be prepared to submit a $35 filing fee, which may be paid by cash, credit card, or check made payable to the Town of Hilton Head Island.

Due to COVID-19, it is recommended that individuals call 843-341-4604 and make an appointment to file their candidacy paperwork. Additionally, candidates should be aware of the following procedures and guidelines:

  • Candidates who will be unable to appear in person during the filing period and wish to file by agent may contact the Town Records Administrator for instructions.
  • Candidates must reside in and be currently registered to vote in the Town of Hilton Head Island. Candidates may only run for Town Council for the ward in which they reside. Candidates’ voter registration must match their current residence. For information on Town Council wards, visit https://hiltonheadislandsc.gov/council/tcwards.cfm.
  • Candidates must file a State Ethics Commission Statement of Economic Interests form by using the electronic filing system at https://ethics.sc.gov.
  • This is a nonpartisan election and no party affiliation shall be placed on the ballot.
