Main Street Drainage Work and Traffic Detour

A contractor for the Town of Hilton Head Island will be repairing the storm drainage system on the north end of Main Street between Whooping Crane Way and Exchange Street on Tuesday, April 7.  Work is scheduled to take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting.

The road will be closed to through traffic between Whooping Crane Way and Exchange, however motorists will be able to access adjacent businesses.  Westbound motorists, leaving the hospital area, will be re-routed to Exchange Street, William Hilton Parkway and Whooping Crane Way.  Eastbound motorists, leaving the Hilton Head Plantation area, will be rerouted to William Hilton Parkway via Whooping Crane Way. 

Motorists not destined for this block of Main Street are encouraged to avoid the construction area during the construction time.  Affected traffic will be controlled in the work area via detour signs, traffic control devices and flaggers.
