Shelter Cove Area Night Time Work and U.S. 278 Bus. Lane Shifts and Median Closures Next Two Weeks

Starting Wednesday, April 1, 2020 and extending through April 15, 2020, motorist traveling in the Shelter Cove area may experience delays while contractors for the Town of Hilton Head Island close lanes at the Shelter Cove Lane traffic signal, the median crossover near Whole Foods, and the median crossover near the Kroger Fuel Plaza, as well as a lane shift operation.

Lane closures expected Wednesday, April 1, and Thursday, April 2, include:

  • Alternating night time lane closures along off island (west bound) U.S. 278 Bus. between crossovers at Shelter Cove Lane near the Kroger Fuel Station and Whole Foods.  Lane closures are expected to last from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. each night.
     
  • The signalized crossover at the central Shelter Cove Lane (former Mall Blvd) will be closed starting 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 1.

Additional Lane Closures between Friday, April 3, and Wednesday, April 15: 

  • The signalized median crossover at the central Shelter Cove Lane (former Mall Blvd) will remain closed during the day and night until Wednesday, April 15.
     
  • The west bound (off-island) through lanes for U.S. 278 Bus. will remain shifted until Wednesday, April 15.
     
  • Night time alternating lane closures along off island (west bound) U.S. 278 Bus. between the Kroger Fuel Plaza and Whole Foods crossovers are expected Monday, April 6 to Thursday, April 9. These closures are expected to last from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m.
     
  • The median crossovers near the Kroger Fuel Plaza and Whole Foods will experience intermittent and alternating closures between Monday, April 6 and Friday, April 10.
