The health and well-being of the community is the Town's top priority. Therefore, in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and keep our residents, visitors, Town staff and first responders safe, the Town of Hilton Head Island is limiting services and activities at Town Hall and Town-owned facilities until further notice.

Over the past several days, as organizations like the CDC, State of South Carolina and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control have strengthened their advisories and warnings, it has become clear that caution is the best way for the Town to assist in curbing the spread of the virus. Governor McMaster's latest communications have included direct instructions to cancel certain types of gatherings and events, and the Town is heeding that advice. Additionally, we believe it is appropriate to take additional protective measures to protect our staff and emergency first responders.

Effective immediately, the following measures are in place to protect the community and help slow the spread of the coronavirus.

  • Town offices remain open at this time. However, we are asking citizens to proactively limit their interactions with Town staff as much as possible. The Town is encouraging residents and customers to do as much business as possible with the Town online and limit their visits to Town Hall unless there is urgent business matters that must be handled on site. We will provide additional updates on the status of Town Hall and Town operations if they should change in the future.

  • The Hilton Head Island Town Council meeting currently scheduled for 4:00 PM on Tuesday, March 17th is still scheduled as planned; however, all other committee and task force meetings are postponed until further notice. This includes the special meeting with the South Carolina Department of Transportation that was scheduled for 3:00 pm on Tuesday, March 17th. We encourage citizens to watch the March 17th Town Council meeting via the appropriate public cable access channels or to stream the meeting on the internet through Beaufort County's County Channel.

  • All organized recreational activities and activities for which special event permits have been acquired from the Town for use on Town properties are canceled. This does not mean that Town owned facilities such as beach accesses and parks are being closed at this time. However, we would encourage the public to follow the directions of the State and other public health agencies and practice precautionary steps with regards to things like gathering in crowds and practicing social distancing.

  • Events around Town that are not managed or supported by the Town will make their own determination on whether to proceed or cancel. Please reach out to those organizations directly regarding their plans.

  • Fire Rescue has postponed all CPR/AED & First aid courses. In addition, the public use of use of Fire Stations and Fire Rescue Headquarters for non-emergency purposes is postponed effective immediately.

  • We encourage everyone to remain vigilant, continue to monitor developments and continue to take proper preventative actions such as washing your hands.

The Town will assess the situation regularly and publish updates on Town Hall services via email, on its website at hiltonheadislandsc.gov and its social media sites listed below:
