Hilton Head Island, SC – A new traffic signal has been installed at the intersection of Pope Avenue and Lagoon Road, and is set be operational this Wednesday, the Town of Hilton Head Island has announced.
On Thursday, December 5, 2019, Town staff placed the traffic signal in flash mode. Motorists should use caution when passing through this intersection, with Lagoon Road motorists yielding to Pope Avenue traffic and continuing to treat the flashing red signals as an indication to stop. At 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2019, the signal will be switched to stop-and-go operation.
This new traffic signal, which also includes pedestrian signals to help people with crossing all four approaching streets, is part of the Town’s transportation improvements in the Coligny area. It also will serve traffic going to the new Lowcountry Celebration Park, which is currently under construction.
