Hilton Head Island Water Quality Program

The Town of Hilton Head Island monitors water quality at multiple sites island-wide. The data have been collected since September 1999 as part of a Capital Improvements Program stormwater project. The project was initiated in an effort to monitor stormwater discharge to establish baseline data to compare water quality after completion of stormwater projects. This monitoring allows the Town to identify and seek to remedy water quality impacts. The Town tests the water at each monitoring point for the following list of parameters: Dissolved oxygen, pH, salinity, turbidity, temperature, ammonia, nitrate, total kjeldahl nitrogen, total phosphorus and fecal coliform.
