Hurricane Matthew

October 2016

During the overnight hours of Friday, October 7 and through the morning of October 8, the eyewall of Hurricane Matthew passed very close to the island and brought the town over 13 inches of rainfall and 89 mph wind gusts. The aftermath was significant: flooding from rainfall, beach erosion, and a large number of downed trees that substantially impacted power, water and sewer, roads, and other critical services.
