In order to fulfill a 2012 Town Council goal of 'Community-Based Education Program on Environmental Stewardship,' the Natural Resource Administrator position has been changed to an educational position of Sustainable Practices Coordinator. It will focus on public education involving the economy, quality of life, natural resources, energy, and 'green' building. Sally Krebs, who has worked with the Town since 1986 in natural resources protection and tree/wetland permitting, will fill this educational role and move out of a permitting role. Sally was instrumental in creating and enforcing the Town's Tree Protection Ordinance. Sally received her BA & MS in Zoology from Rutgers University, with coursework in a PhD program in Biological Sciences from the University of Rhode Island. She is a Certified Arborist, and also teaches Herpetology, Environmental Science and Applied Environmental Science part-time at USCB. You may reach her at 843-341-4690 or sallyk@hiltonheadislandsc.govpdf icon.

Also, Rocky Browder has been hired to fill a vacant Environmental Planner position. This position will handle all site development permitting involving natural resources (trees, beach, & wetlands). Rocky brings excellent experience in managing coastal resources as well as an understanding of how to work with the private sector to accomplish their goals in economic development or redevelopment. For the past 4 years, Rocky has worked with Sligh Environmental Consultants, focusing on wetlands-related work associated with master planned developments in addition to preparing critical area and environmental permitting applications while coordinating the regulatory process between property owners and local governments. Rocky has also worked for 18 years with South Carolina Department of Health & Environmental Control/Office of Ocean & Coastal Resource Management (SCDHEC/OCRM) in processing environmental permits. He has a MPA with emphasis in Coastal Zone Management and a BS in Marine Geology from the College of Charleston. You may reach Rocky at 843-341-4682 or rockyb@hiltonheadislandsc.govpdf icon.
