Hilton Head Island retailers and other businesses and organizations can learn about the new law prohibiting single-use plastic bags at an information session at 3 p.m., Tuesday, October 9, at the Hilton Head Island Town Hall, One Town Center Court.

Town staff will discuss the single-use plastic bag Ordinance, which goes into effect on November 1, and show samples of bags that are permitted and not permitted under the Ordinance. They will also answer questions attendees may have about the Ordinance that aims to improve and protect the environment, especially waterways and marine life across the region.

The Town's Ordinance prohibits businesses from providing single-use plastic bags to their customers. Instead, businesses are encouraged to provide reusable carryout bags or recyclable paper bags for customers.
