Tropical Storm Hermine

The Town activated the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) this morning at 6:00 a.m. in anticipation of the arrival of Tropical Storm Hermine. As a result of the storm Fire Rescue has responded to the following:

  • 5 Trees blocking roadways
  • 2 Trees on homes
  • Trees on vehicles
  • 3 Trees on powerlines

No injuries were reported from any of the incidents. The Red Cross is assisting a family that had to be relocated due to damage to their home from a fallen tree. Folly Field Road is temporarily closed at Seahorse Way due to a tree blocking the roadway. Alternate routes are available.

The EOC is continuing to monitor the storm which is located approximately 55 miles WSW of Savannah GA.

Currently we are under the following watches and warnings:

  • Tropical Storm Warning -In effect through 2PM
  • Tornado Watch - In effect through 4PM
  • Flash Flood Watch - In effect through this evening
  • High Risk of Rip Currents - All beaches today

The public should take the following precautions:

  • Eliminate unnecessary travel, especially by car.
  • If you come upon a flooded road while driving, turn around and go another way. If you are caught on a flooded road and waters are rising rapidly around you, get out of the car quickly and move to higher ground. Most cars can be swept away by less than two feet of moving water.
  • Make sure all your tools, supplies, and first aid kit available for use.
  • Stay away from windows as winds increase.
  • Be aware of downed trees and powerlines and report to proper authorities.
