On Sunday, February 23, 2014, the Town's contractor, R. L. Morrison & Sons, Inc. mobilized to local waters for the purposes of dismantling and removing the wrecks of two (2) shrimp boats which have been abandoned since August 2013 and are aground in Jarvis Creek. On Monday, February 24, the contractor plans to evaluate the site at low tide and mobilize to the project site at high tide in the afternoon. On Tuesday morning the dismantling and removing of the rigging and outriggers, masts and stays is expected to occur. Once clear, silt curtain and containment booms will be deployed and the removal process will commence. The cost to remove the boats is $157,715.00 and the contract completion time is 40 days.
