Beginning Thursday, February 14th, 2013, a construction contractor working for Blanchard & Calhoun Commercial, the redeveloper of the Shelter Cove Mall site, will close Shelter Cove Lane between Newport Drive and Mall Boulevard. The closure will be imposed to accommodate the relocation of this segment of Shelter Cove Lane in conjunction with the proposed mall redevelopment and to install related utility and service infrastructure. The closure is expected to remain in effect for several months due to the amount of construction involved.
Motorists wishing to access the Shelter Cove Community Park and Veterans Memorial or the Shelter Cove Plaza Shopping Center from the side or rear may continue to do so via Mall Boulevard and/or the portion of Shelter Cove Lane between Mall Boulevard and William Hilton Parkway, which will remain open to travel during the closure. Access to Newport Drive from William Hilton Parkway will be maintained via King Neptune Drive and/or the unsignalized mall access that intersects William Hilton Parkway and Shelter Cove Lane to the south of the former mall site. All through traffic currently served by Shelter Cove Mall between Newport Drive and Mall Boulevard must use William Hilton Parkway as an alternate route.
Motorists are asked to use caution when traveling on Shelter Cove Lane in the vicinity of the former mall site and to be alert to all traffic control devices, particularly when approaching the portion of Shelter Cove Lane located behind the former Shelter Cove Mall.
