Freedom of Information Requests

The South Carolina Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) is part of the South Carolina Code of Laws (30-4-10) allowing any citizen to have access to public records and to meetings of public bodies with some exceptions as defined in the Act.

In accordance with the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act, the Town has 10 working days (excepting Saturday, Sundays, and legal public holidays) to determine if the information requested is publicly available under the Freedom of Information Act. However, if the requested information is more than 24 months old at the date the request is made, the Town has 20 working days (excepting Saturday, Sundays, and legal public holidays) of the receipt to make this notification.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE: You may access the following information on the Town's website: Building permits, building construction plans, site development plans, as-built plans, and flood elevation certificates for structures constructed after 1984 and approved minutes for Town Council and all Town Boards/Committees, and Commissions (dating back many years).

Research Time and Copy Fees:

Pursuant to South Carolina Law, "a public body may establish and collect reasonable fees not to exceed the actual cost of the search, retrieval, and redaction of records or making copies of records."

  1. The hourly rate for research time is based upon a scaled pricing structure based upon the salary grade level of the employee actually performing the research:
    Salary Grades 13-18: = $22.00/hour;
    Salary Grades 19-23: = $35.00/hour;
    Salary Grades 24 and above (including executive level): = $51.00/hour.
  1. If research time or time to make the copies is 15 minutes or less, there is no charge.

  2. Copies: .10/per page. Note: If no fee is required for research time or copy time (15 minutes or less), copy costs may still apply.

  3. If research or reproduction costs exceed $50.00, a 25% deposit will be required prior to staff commencing research.
