The Town actively applies for, and administers, a variety of Federal, State and private grants. Examples of successful grant awards include:
- SC Department of Transportation, Transportation Enhancement Program (TEP) funding the Town used to partially fund the construction of several pathways; including Spanish Wells Road and Palmetto Bay Road pathways.
- Two Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) to construct sewer systems in the Muddy Creek and Squire Pope Road neighborhoods.
- SC Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC)/Office of Coastal Resource Management (OCRM) Beach Monitoring grant to assist with assessing the condition of all surface water resources on the Island.
- SC Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Parks and Recreation Development (PARD) Fund grants to develop or enhance recreation facilities; including resurfacing Island Recreation Center basketball courts, installing boardwalk at Shelter Cove Community Park, and resurfacing Chaplin Park tennis courts. .
The Town uses a variety of sources to research new grant programs that will assist staff to achieve the goals of the community. The Town of Hilton Head Island's grants administration program does not make grants to individuals or private organizations.
